Overall Build CPU

Hi Eveyrone

 

I am currently building a system and I am uncertain as to which CPU to choose.

 

The system will be used for office, internet browsing and basic photo editing, not using Photoshop.

 

I am uncertain as to whether to go with a Ryzen APU or an Intel CPU and which specific version of CPU to go for as well, as there is the potential for the photo editing software used to get more intensive later on, in terms of better software being used.

 

There has been a request to not have a GPU in the system.

usually you want to go with a Ryzen APU as it just has a much more beefy GPU

I guess GPU means graphics card here? Because even Intel's shoddy integrated graphics is a GPU. A modern system without GPU (we're talking way back till CPU handled graphics) won't be able to display anything directly, resembling a server hooked up for remote access (excluding the remote access part).

 

but really, that requirement itself kills performance drastically. Photo editing I assume means Adobe products? Those heavily rely on CUDA acceleration, to the point that even a mid range CPU like the 8400 with a GTX 1050 can beat an 8700k with iGPU.

Can you specify the work load? you might actually need no more than a very simple h310 + i3 8100 + 8gb memory combo.

For just small things like Word, Office, Internet, etc..(you could easily do all at once) I would go AMD and get the 2200G or the 2400G if you want to make sure you have the necessary power to do a little more. Plus those chips have way better integrated graphics built in, than Intel does. I literally just built a computer as a christmas gift using the 2200G and ended up using it in my personal build as I had to wait for my GPU (not integrated) to arrive before I could use my 2600X. It actually did everything I needed it to, although it was running at close to 100%, not that I could tell without monitoring it. And that's using Photoshop, browsing the web and having a few other programs open as well. The 2400G would probably perform pretty damn well for basic users that don't do any video editing or anything serious, plus it has even better graphics than the 2200G.

Did I mention I even played Crossout on Steam at 1440p on my 4k screen with the 2200g, thanks to freesync it worked without a problem.
