Boot Drive Question

I'm planning to use a reg 1 TB SSD for a boot drive but can I us an m.2 wd blue 1tb SATA 3 drive as a boot drive? and also can I use this drive only for a storage dive too

You can use any thing for boot drive these days, USB pendrives, External HDDs, MicroSD cards even Intel Optane Memory.

Just plug it in the system, boot from the Windows.ISO and install on the drive you want.

That's the use for those devices, it's fine to have an SSD only for storage or one just for the operating system. What really matters is the amount of data handled daily, if you do a lot daily and/or need to leave your systems running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it is better to get a high-quality SSD capable of supporting that amount of workloads, if you are like many of us and only use the computer for home, any SSD can do it since it is very difficult for a normal user to reach the limitations of an SSD.
