Hey guys brand new PC user here so I don’t know much about the PC I recently purchased. So on Black Friday I bought a PC and some of the reviews are saying it runs hot playing games and even just idle. So I’m wondering what can I do to keep it cool? Should I upgrade the fans or add liquid cooling? And what would fit in the PC to keep it cool? Thanks and sorry if these are dumb questions I really don’t know what I’m doing for the most part.

Here is the PC i got from Best Buy.

Not buy such a prebuilt with the wrong motherboard and cooler

Start by replacing the cooler to say a Noctua NH-C14S. The VRM cooling is terrible as it doesnt have VRM heatsink, that's why I recommend coolers with fans blowing down rather than the typical tower coolers.

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Welcome to the LTT forums! Well, there is not much we can do the case, as this Omen PC has poor air flow, therefore the best way to reduce temps is to get this case... and rebuild your computer. Or, we just perform some damage control and grab a Noctua NH-D15 cooler. It would improve temps on the CPU, but otherwise there is little we can do to improve the thermal performance of this computer.

Word of warning. Prebuilds are easy pick to new user. But major drawback is that warranty only covers original parts. If you change something inside, you would need to have original components back in for RMA. Depending on the terms of the warranty policy, HP could even deny it because you have changed parts. So read up the terms and think if better thermals are worth it.

I got it for 1500$ on Black Friday.

U bought it already  ?

Hope you don’t want to Overclock your CPU because the version you have will not be able to and also your memory will not run dual channel as it just has 1 stick.

Yeah I’m fine not over clocking it and I’m planning on buying another stick in the future. I’m happy with the specs right now I’m not planning on making huge changes to it myself because I don’t have the knowledge hence me buying a prebuilt.
