So basically i have a system with a dead Z77 motherboard. Would it be worth it to spend ~$85 on a brand new Gigabyte H61 motherboard for my 3570k? It's the cheapest option I have and I'm aware of the inability to OC, it's about 10% less performance comparing a 3570k at 4.5 and 3.4GHz, which in my opinion is better than spending more for a g4560 and ddr3l + b150 motherboard and getting much less fps. Is there any problems with the following H61 board?(Bad VRMS etc)

Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2PV

Any reason you're not looking for a 2nd hand Z68/Z77/P67 board? I wouldn't spend that much on a 7 year old board, even if it's "new". It also might not even have a BIOS version on it that supports your 3570K as not all 6-series boards supported Ivy Bridge out of the box.

You probably shouldn't do this but neither go for an old i5 3570K at this point, why not just get a Ryzen based system or save up for the i3 8100 which is an i5 7400 rebrand that can be quite capable at gaming already?

not worth spending so much for an old H61 board, either get one off taobao for $20-30 or save up for a CPU upgrade instead.

My friend wants the PC to work like in 2 days, so I have to buy it in person. Either I buy a brand new H61 or a used Z series board which are rare and extremely expensive in my country. I’ll take a look at More 7 series boards, hopefully they have them for cheap-ish.

Building for my friend, he has the money to upgrade to the best gaming system you can think of but his mum is restricting his spending.

I would spend more getting a R3-2200G + b450 motherboard + 2x4gb ddr4 3000 than just one motherboard alone, and that is including the money i get from selling the 3570k and ddr3. This whole thing is being funded by my friend since the build is for him and his mum is limiting his spending, so I don’t have many options.

In that case, try to find a cheap B75 board then.

there's a Z68 FTW with a hyper 212 evo included for $65 on carousell and a cheapo used H61 board for $40.

So what are the differences between the 7 series boards, like B75, H77 and Q77? Will they all be fine for a 3570k? If I don’t manage to get a 7 series board, will a 6 series board be fine assuming it’s bios is updated to support 3rd gen intel cpus?

the z68 is missing an io shield and is eatx, my case supports up to atx only. I’ll take a look at that H61, but if the pickup location is inconvenient I might just spend more on a new one.

6 series is fine, yes. With 7 series you get guaranteed compatibility and generally better compatibility with graphics hardware and UEFI.

Also I realise the h61 i was looking at only supported sata 3gbps, which may not be a problem since im using a used ssd which may have slower read and write speeds, but im not sure if its as low as 375MB/s or below. I can probably ask the shop if I have to buy the 6 series to help me update the bios if they can, don’t know if they can do that since it’s unlikely they have a used 2nd gen processor lying around.
