So right now my gaming pc is connected to wifi. And the wifi aint that great when playing competitivly online. Even though sometimes i dont see lag or connection error or etc. im sure it's a disadvantage to use it over the ethernet. Iv been using ethernet my whole life but im forced to use wifi now since i moved to my uncles house. The situation right now is i have the plug for the modem next to my pc. But the modem is connected in the living room to a small router. I tried to move the modem to my room once and my uncle got pissed because he lost connection to his basement. What are my options in here? Can i buy another modem and connect it in my room. Or what are other options. It's really miserable to use wifi for games. My gaming performance is going downhill.

Only if you plan on buying another internet plan. Even then having two modems for internet at the same address is hit or miss with most ISPs. The only time I know its ok is if one Modem is for data and the other is used for digital voice service only. Want to clarify that what I stated here is for Cable Internet (Coax).

If you have coax at both locations, where the router/modem is and at your PC, you can try Moca, though Moca adapters are kinda expensive.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

It uses the Upper bands on the coax that cable co's dont use. Moca 2.0 Unbonded adapters are rated for 400 Mbps and Bonded adapters are rated for 800 Mbps but they are only half duplex.

The only real catch to moca is this

1) You cant use these on the same coax used by Satellite TV providers (DirecTV has their own Moca adapters but only rated for 100 Mbps)

2) You need a moca filter on the main cable line entering you home IF your using the Coax with a cable provider. In some cases you provider might install one if you have whole home DVR.

3) You need good coax, so like RG6.

It screws on the coax, needs to be placed before the first splitter coming in from the cable co. If you check the side of the house, there should be a demark box, if you can get in to it, you should be able to install the filter there.

Well you options are

WiFi (Shitty)

Power line (Less shitty but still shitty)

Moca (Requires a little knowledge of how coax is run)

Personally Ive gone in to my Demark a lot. I check the cables periodically to ensure they are tight, as I live next to the railroad and an express way, so they sometimes come loose.

Okay i called comcast and they are going to install a moca filter for free. what next?

Some might suggest getting moca compatible splitters but I heard that normal splitters can work just fine. You just buy a pair of adapters. One connects to the modem/router the next will connect to your PC. Then you will have a wired connection and not have to worry about WiFI. Also, you can have up to 16 moca devices on a network. So if there are other devices you need connected, you can just add more adapters. Just make sure you get Moca 2.0 adapters or above, I think ActionTek is one of the few or only manufactures of Moca adapters for retail.

Im honestly surprised that a Comcast rep knew what a Moca filter was. Been with Comcast for over 10 years and I can say they aint the sharpest tools in the shed if you know what I mean.

No you hook an adapter to the modem and put another adapter in your room. The adapters will communicate at 1 Ghz to 1.5 Ghz on the same wire Comcast uses.

Like I said. ActionTec is like the ONLY company that does moca hardware. Moca never took off as the previous gen Moca adapters did not coexist with Cable Providers. The biggest users of Moca is the Cable Companies and Verizon FIOS, so no companies never really got in to doing retail gear.

Thats a good question. See where my modem was previously before I managed to move it into my room I had two coax connections. I think you can put the adapter between the wall and the modem as it use the TV port on the adapter as it would have to support two way communication for cable boxes.

So the first adapter goes next to my modem. And the second one goes to my room? But i need an extra coax cable no? For my room one.

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/does-a-moca-adapter-need-a-splitter-if-sharing-with-a-cable-modem.33752/

This post suggests that it should work. My only concern is, the cable modem needs the best siganl possible, splitting too many times WILL cause issues. I know this from personal experience. Im guessing that inside that Bonded adapter there is a two way splitter which cuts 3.5dB from the signal or cuts it in half. This Will affect the siganl coming in to your modem, that that being said, Comcast should have no more than a Two way splitter between you can the wiring out on the poles. If your signals are good then I would say you can safely split it again and not have any issues.

You can check you signals by going to 192.168.1.100 in a web browser. Then just compare with these: https://www.dslreports.com/faq/16085. Just keep in mind that between Summer and Winter you signals will change. Also, you signals can change as much as 3dB in a signal day. So if your on the edge of acceptable it could push you over.

Well if you dont have coax install to your room then this wont work. Most houses Ive been in have coax install in the walls to each bedroom and to the living room. If thats not the case then this is a waste of money.
