Hey,

quick question.

I play a lot of old games on my system and i wondered if it would be benificial if i would recreate the req cpu values... for instance P4 at 2,4 ghz .. this would lead to me using only 2 cores of my x56xx cpu at those speeds.
Benificial or an absolute no?

I mean there’s really no reason to... A faster more efficient core is better than a slower, single threaded core.

Unless you're playing DOS games (old ones usually at that), CPU clockspeed speed doesn't matter at all for Windows games from what I've seen (excluding the obvious "if your CPU is too slow it just won't run well at all").

Ok no... That’s not a very accurate statement. Clock speeds definitely contribute to frame rates, and frame rates contribute to playability. In really old games it probably won’t matter if your 8700K is at stock speeds or at 5.2 GHz, but it probably helps if your Core 2 Quad Q6600 is at 3.0 GHz instead of 2.4

Well to be honest... I use a xeonx5650 ... rated base core speed 2,1 ghz  normal spinning values 3,1 ghz ( 2,6 with turbo ) idle speed 1,6 1,5 ghz ... I discovered a game where it to me was absolutely necesary to increase my idle speed up to the speed the game required : which was 2,4 ghz before it would run smooth, without any form of stress signs what so ever... This made me think about how it would affect my cpu if i started with limiting its cores.

So to be clear

1. Does using lesser cores increase the risc factor on my cpu
2. Does my power usage increase when i run idle on 2,4 ghz ( duh )
3. Does my 6 core have the ability to simulate older cpu's
4. Now i think of it... would disabling all halt states have a similair effect on my stock machine?
