TR 1950X Build

I have a friend who would like a gaming/workstation build. Here is the list:

Let me know if anything looks wrong. The color scheme for this build is black grey and white. Since the ram modules, the GPU, and pretty much everything else has programmable lighting I don't think it will be a problem.

Looks solid but go for a bigger cooler, that case can handle it anyways. Look at 280mm AIO's at the least but if possible get a 360mm AIO.

Do you think some custom sleeved cables would be necessary or will the cables that come with the power supply look fine? Also will the GPU get enough airflow? What fans would you recommend?

Custom sleeved cables can always be added later, the all black cables include with that EVGA PSU look fine. 

 

I'm not sure how good airflow is in that case, it wouldn't be my first full tower choice but I highly recommend the Corsair ML fans, I prefer them to the Noctua NF fans. They are super quiet, look better, move a ton of air, and are ever so slightly cheaper.

I would agree with this, 16 cores is a lot of heat, and for a $3000 build, another $20-40 for a cooler upgrade isn't much.

 

Only problem I see is RAM. You current have a dual channel kit of RAM, and Threadripper uses quadchannel RAM. You should still be able to use your kit fine, but in order to get the best performance out of your rig you should have a kit like this one.

Alright, I will look for a quad channel kit with 32GB. And I will add in that powersupply.

How is this ram? Do you think it's fast enough? The timings don't seem to be B-die timings. Think it will be alright?

I linked the same kit in that post, and it's $30 cheaper on newegg. There's your extra money for the CPU cooler lol.

Ah yes forgot about that. Corsair sells a kit on their website, but I don't know if they ship to Malaysia. But Deepcool's doesn't say it is either.

G3 is good quality. I would recommend G2, they're higher quality, but G3 units are still very good and have a great warranty.

Strange, I thought I picked the Deepcool one because it said it was compatible. I will keep looking then.

Most companies sell a separate bracket. Otherwise, any cooler with good reviews should be fine.

What monitor would you recommend by the way? 4K with Gsync. I believe that my friend would prefer something elegant but something that still has great gaming performance.

If you have enough money for one of those, those will be best for a workstation type workflow (usually).

The cooler might not be enough if it will see heavy work.

I too use a threadripper 1950x stock clocks and under any consistent workload the temp would hit 70+C on the cpu via ryzen master using an H115i.

The coldplate is simply too small vs the IHS on the CPU.

I then got an enermax liqtech 360 tr4 (designed for TR) and a few months later it started to fail.

RMA'd it and got another only for it to suffer the same fate after a few weeks.

 

I eventually went with a custom loop using EK parts.

Idles at 26-28c and doesnt go over 48c under load.

Best cooler for TR is definately a custom loop if your budget allows it.

If not, I would look at the Noctua cpu coolers designed for threadripper if going with air.
