do i need an SLI capable board to use a GTX 690?

turns out it will work without an sli board.. 

see title. i found a few for quite cheap, and i wanna mess around with dual gpu's.

Yes. The two GPUs communicate using SLI, so as far as I know, you have to have an SLI compatible motherboard to use both GPUs. Correct me if I’m wrong though
