Hey Hey, I’m new here! I was looking to upgrade my current PC recently (Intel G4560, GTX 1050Ti, 8GB RAM) it kinda was a budget build I did last year to save me for the winter. Since my case is a Micro-ATX, and my motherboard too, I thought I would just build a new one from an ATX case. I want to run most recent games at Medium-High, at 60FPS. Budget $2500 CAD

I first think to this:

i7 8700

GTX 1070Ti

16GB RAM

240GB SSD, 1000GB HDD

I didn’t went for the new RTX 2070 for the good reason of some of them burning after a few weeks, also didn’t went for 8700K because I heard I would need better cooling solution. Talking about CPU cooling, I have no idea what to get, any suggestion? definitively not using stock one. You’re idea on this build? Good enough for 2018-2019?

The motherboard with your G4560 is not compatible with the 8700, so you will need to buy a new motherboard. Your RAM will still be compatible. Is it a single 8GB stick or 2x4GB sticks? What frequency?

If you can list your full specs we can probably give you some upgrades that will not require a full rebuild. Like mentioned above, Kaby Lake is still a great platform, you could just upgrade the CPU and GPU and call it done (depending on your other parts).

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

if you have z270 (im not sure why you would with a pentium g4560 unless this was a longterm plan) then get a 7700k, b250 get a 7700

not much point jumping to coffee lake for the extra 2 cores at the expense of a whole new motherboard and much more expensive processor and a new case

Didn’t really think about longterm with my old build, the whole build is micro-ATX, I have a low profile GTX 1050Ti in there lol, I’d keep that old PC for my brother which can’t afford a PC.

500W, most likely generic

Well, you can either get a new CPU, GPU, and PSU, which for something like an i7-7700, GTX 1070/1070 Ti, and a good 550-650W PSU would probably run you about... $550-700 depending on your parts, or you could do a full build, which would probably be closer to $1500+ if you go with an 8700K/2070 based system.

I’ll pick up a 600W PSU, what is sure is for the stupid price difference I’ll just go for 8700 and not 7700. need advice for CPU cooling... With the statments of the RTX 2070 burning after weeks of usage, it’s a no go for me. The lower I go in term of price right now is $1800 CAD without proper CPU cooling, might swap that 1070Ti for a 1080 too.

You’re missing the point... an 8700 will not drop intoyour current motherboard, but a 7700 will. So you can get a used 7700 for way cheaper and just throw it in. Also, all RTX cards have been fixed. And it was the 2080 Ti that had all the problems, the 2070 never exhibited any

Then I’ll go for the RTX 2070, so that’s a new build, I know this is dumb but micro-ATX is just too much trouble. Just finding a low profile GPU is pain in the ass, especially passed 1060. One question thought: What’s your opinion on Thermaltake 600W PSU, any good? What should I get for CPU cooling?

I did say from the start I wanted to make a new build from an ATX case. My current build is just so outdated to me. is Thermaltake 600W PSU any good or should I get a corsair? also, what should I get for CPU cooling, I’m not using the stock fan.

Well we were trying to tell you that for about half the price of a full rebuild, you can have an updated system that’s just as good, and you never answered lol. If you can provide the model name or number then I can tell you if it’s good. You can also just look at the PSU tier list thread on the forum and see for yourself. For a cooler it depends on what CPU you get. A lot of times an 8700K is basically the same price as an 8700 so it’s worth just buying the K SKU. Or you could go with a Ryzen CPU, way more cost efficient

I could for sure provide you with all parts model numbers and specification of my old build, I’ll look it up! I’ll look for PSU. Now for the 8700K I’m not sure, can’t seems to find it at the same price than the 8700, also 8700K will need much better cooling method, I want to avoid spending too much on this.
