Which GPU for 1080P gaming?

Juusuhako

Hello all,

my good ol' 780 died on me a few days ago, so I need a new GPU.

My system consists of a 3570k@4.3ghz, on a 1080P monitor running 120hz. I've got plenty (mostly 2nd hand) options, such as 980ti, 1070, 1070ti, 1060 6GB... Should I pick whatevers most bang for the buck, or does it makse sense to pick one card over the other?

Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

780(ti)=970=1060, i am sure you want better performance, go for 1070 or ti

The 1060 is on par with the 980, not the 970. In some specific titles the 1060 roughly equals the 780 ti but in most the 1060 is better than the 780 ti, so it's definitely better than the 780. Still if op wants to game at 120Hz he should probably go for something a little beefier than a 1060, also depending on the titles he wants to play.

Thanks for the replies. I do fire up some triple A titles from time to time, although I don't expect to hit a constant 120fps in those, given my CPU... That, or I just don't know how much the 780 held me back, since I don't recall having such FPS in a triple a game for a long time (latest would be Hitman).

I'm not gonna be in risk of bottleneck with the 1070/1070ti?

No, at least not in most cases.

Gonna be honest OP, I would recommend a 1060 if you want the same performance (or just go get another 780), or get something along the lines of a 970 or 980 to gain more performance, since the 1000 series is slightly more expensive than the 900 series, and you can find more lightly-used cheap eBay resales for the 900 series.

What I wouldn't recommend is RTX. It just isn't worth it and won't be for a long time.

Not looking to get an RTX-card. It'd be nice to be a little future-proof though, so I'm thinking 1070/1070ti. Hoping to find a good deal this weekend. :)
