where to buy starter materials for custom psu extentions

IAnthonyFX

is it even cheaper than buying it from cable mod, or what other retailer would you suggest? Looking for colour matching, nothing all that crazy nor serious.

Hi @IAnthonyFX

If you are feeling adventurous, you could un-pick each wire and sleeve each of them individually with Heatshrink Tubing

@IAnthonyFX if you're doing multiple kits then it would be cheaper to take the DIY approach. Otherwise you could purchase from us and get full support and peace of mind that you're taken care of. You can start off with checking out our basic extension kits which start at $29.90 USD. :)

sadly cable mods does not offer black and grey kits :/ or at least I haven't found them. Otherwise I would definitely go with them

If you have the tools, it's cheaper by allot. You can get all the supplies for about 30 dollars. If you don't have a crimping tool you can get a basic one for 20 dollars or MDPC-X one for 40.

Distro can offer terminals for very cheap price, if you want to buy them from an actual sleeving shop:

16 AWG: https://mod-one.com/molex-16awg-male-atx-terminal-10-pack/

18 AWG: https://mod-one.com/molex-male-18awg-atx-terminal-10-pack/

^ These are also Molex Branded terminals in tin.

Sleeving: https://mod-one.com/mdpc-x-cable-sleeve/small-mdpc-x-sleeve/

Heatshrink(You still need it for heatshrinkless): https://mod-one.com/mdpc-x-heatshrink/small-heatshrink/

-----

You can also de-pin your current PSU cables and just re-seleve it. However the Double Wires are tricky to sleeve and get back inside the connector due to the extra bulk they have. Just make sure to take photos or do one wire at a time. Since every PSU has a different pinout.

Only tool Needed: https://mod-one.com/original-molex-pinremover/

Current Build: Project Frost
Gaming Rig Build: Project Ice Dragon

they wanted me to make my own kit, which makes it ridiculously expensive.

Check:

Mod-One.com (MDPC-X or Paracord)

ensourced.net/ (Paracord)

Ensourced.net was cheaper then Cable-Mod with full modular cables. Extensions will be cheaper. Plus there Hand made. I've not done a comparison with Mod-One. They should be close too. Plus they both use 16 AWG instead of 18 AWG.

Just in-case you want them done professionally.
