VGA compatibility?

spicy memeboi

Hello,

I found my parents' old IBM 466DX2/D with a Model M keyboard (satisfyingly clicky) and a CRT monitor. I hooked it up, and it all worked. I wanted to bring it to my house. Problem is, I have zero space for a CRT anywhere. My house is teeny. I looked on my monitor, and Voila! VGA port. The IBM uses a VGA port. But, would this VGA signal work on a more "modern" non-CRT monitor?

Yes, it should work.

Some larger resolution monitors may have issues with some text mode resolutions (like 720x400 for example) but most 1080p monitors or lower should work fine.

Oh.. also set the refresh rate to 60 Hz or at least below 75 Hz. Most LCD monitors can't handle refresh rates higher than 75 Hz and won't make difference if the refresh rate is higher than 60 Hz, the LCD monitor will most likely only output out of 60 frames a second and drop the others, so there's no point setting more than 60 Hz. With CRT monitors you wanted 85 Hz or more, but that was required due to CRT technology messing your eyes at lower refresh rates..
