Help with new server build?

OK so i'm looking into building my own server it doesn't have to be overkill just enough to... Host 1 or 2 game servers for my friends and i. Maybe have data backup with people having their own user accounts for the backups. the last thing that i'm thinking about is renting the server power out to people, that is like dead bottom. 

 

So i haven't done this before what components would be the best for this?

please don't do this, there are so many issues it will bring up and it will probably not make you money, especially if you don't know what you're doing (and you say you're completely new to this)

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

It was just an idea there is a good chance i wont do it

Games being intensive like arma 3 all the way to minecraft

um...

 

xeon quad core (cheapo) lga775

 

lga775 mobo (non optiplex, they gave me to much troubles.)

 

make sure it works w xeon and not just pentium

 

8 gb of ddr2/ddr3 depending on what it takes

 

used corsair 400 watt psu

 

old case you got or cheapo

 

could prob get this all for under 100
