PSU for 7950 x2 + OCed FX 8350

TechFan@ic

I need a good power-supply for a dual 7950 + an overclocked FX 8350 build I'm doing.

Efficiency isn't as important as having 0 coil whine, I was considering the Corsair GS800 800W PSU but I found out that it exhibits coil whine/electrical noise under heavy load, the NZXT Hale 750W seems to have the same issue.

I'm currently considering the Corsair HX750 is there any other alternative that's better for the same price or just as good for less ?

Do you want fully modular? Budget?

I've heard some odd issues with the HX750 too, apparently it creates a chirping noise of some sort due to the fan randomly spinning up. It's overpriced for $130 anyways, so I'd recommend avoiding it.

I can't really say certain units are 100% free from coil whine though - it seems to depend a lot on the setup and such. The Seasonic KM2 platform for example (order X-series, AX and XFX Gold units) for the most part seems to be free of coil whine, however there are a couple of users who are reporting it. Given the current pricing they are great choices in terms of overall quality, which is what I'd personally recommend (the XFX unit is currently sold on newegg for $140 with a $20 rebate, which is a rather nice deal).

As for others, from what I've heard the Superflower Golden Green series seem to have no issues in terms of coil whine, which includes the Rosewill Capstone-M, NZXT Hale90-M and the PCP&C Silencer MK III. Another option would be the Antec HCP 750w, which also seems to be fine in that regard (slightly over budget, but it's comparable to the KM2-series in terms of quality).

EDIT: Just realized that the XFX unit I was referring to is actually based off the KM3 platform, so it's more or less the same as the newer X-series and AX units. It currently costs $120 off newegg with an additional $20 rebate, which is an insane deal for a unit like that. There's been some cases of slight coil whine from what I've heard, but I'd recommend it regardless given the quality of it.

I Thought that the HX series was also based on Seasonic's X platform?

TechFan@tic, I would go with the Seasonic X-750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087 I just bought it for my wife and it is a very good PSU for the money. It also is a 80+ Gold PSU and fully modular. It has very nice flat black cables, and the power cord that goes from the PSU to the wall is very thick, it is almost as thick as my XFX 1250 watt PSU power cord, which is freaking thick and I mean thick.

P.S. The Seasonic X-750 also can handle 2 7950', it also comes with a 7 year warranty

No, 750w version is a CWT rebrand, only the AX-series are based on Seasonic's X-series units (KM2 and KM3 platform). The 650w model for some reason is based off Seasonic's G-series, but the rest aren't.

I have an HX750 psu, and like christoi sad, it coil whines, at low load, and the fan randomly spin up, no matter the load, so then i becomes the loudest fan in my case. so im a little dissapointed with the HX750, but when the fan is quiet, and when i play games its just OK and nothing better. but in the end I would not recommend it :( my previous psu was a chieftec psu, and as far as i know, EVERY chieftec power supplys do not have any coile whine, and are very quiet and cool. and their cheap aswell. at least i like it. :) secound thought, maybe not so good sleeving on the modular cables.... :/

Ok thanks everybody for your help, I'll either go with the Seasonic X-750 or the Corsair AX750, depends on which one I find available in the local shops.

Is there any other 750W PSU based on the Seasonic X platform ? in case I don't find either of those two ..

The only other one I know of TechFan@ic is the XFX 750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207029 , it is the same as the Seasonic X-750 PSU with XFX branding on it. You can not tell the deference between the 2 besides the casing, They have the same flat cables, the same thick power cord, and the hybrid switch for the fan. The only real big deference is that the XFX one only has a 5 year warranty instead of the 7 year warranty. Hope this helped you buddy.
