Would it be a good idea to have my rear fan as an intake instead of exhaust?

Tory4Glory

So I have a Phanteks P400S TG, I have 5 fans in total. 2 are mounted to the rad in the front and they are pulling air in through the rad. The other 2 are at the top exhausting, the last is at the back and that is also currently exhausting.

I felt the back of my case when playing some games earlier and the rear fan is exhausting nothing because the 2 in the top are already exhausting all the air from the rad before it even gets to that fan. So would it be a good idea to change that rear fan into an intake instead?

Another reason is the only intakes I currently are pulling through a rad which will obviously weaken air flow so maybe adding another unobstructed one would be a good idea?

I may be way off the mark on this one, only joined PCMR a few days ago so I have some things to learn.

So are you sure that it is exhausting air currently? If it doesn't feel like it's blowing air then it might already be in-taking.

If you don't think the back fan is doing work just take it out. I have two intakes in the front and my AIO exhausting out the top, so i just removed the rear exhaust (actually had to make it into another intake in the top because of how much damn air the 115i's stock fans move even at the lowest RPM, but that probably doesn't apply for you)

Generally, it's thought that slightly positive air pressure is what you want to go for (more air in than out) so dust stays out.

As for cooling - it really shouldn't matter too much. I'd doubt you'd get any noticeable decrease in temperatures, but if you feel like the front two aren't pulling enough air in for the top two exhaust, a third intake could help that.

Flipping the rear to exhaust should help cooling but it'll bring in dust if you don't add a dust filter.
