Windows 10 won't boot after fresh install on SSD

kay2493

Hi, I'm very new here. I have this particular problem where my Windows won't boot after a fresh install on my SSD. I've installed the Windows using a USB drive formatted using Rufus with GPT and UEFI setting. I've read that some people won't have it boot because they have another HDD installed while installing Windows but that's not my case. I've detached all HDD except my SSD and after a fresh Windows 10 install, Windows won't boot and it ask me to reboot and insert boot media. I've checked the setting and I have set my SSD for the first boot media. I also have enabled AHCI on my SATA setting in BIOS and enabled Compatibility Support Module (CSM) to UEFI first but still it won't boot. When I reconnect my older HDD which contain a copy of Windows and boot from it, it work just fine. I'm at my dead end here and hope that someone can help me figuring this out. Here's my PC spec:

OS: Windows 10 Pro

Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-M (Updated to the latest BIOS 2203)

Processor: Intel Core i5-3330

SSD: SanDisk SSD Plus 120GB

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB (Old Windows 10)

RAM: 12GB

Graphic Card: ASUS Nvidia GT630 2GB

Hope this help. Thanks!

I have an Asus Z170I and I have had similar probs with a PNY ssd and a Kingston.

Never any probs with my Samsung though.

Try a OS re-install.

Or wait for someone smart to come along. xD

That is a classic symptom of the boot sector getting railed, If you can boot into the installation again and repair the boot sector. I cannot remember the commands off top of my head, which makes this post mostly useless. The fact that it boots off of your other drive tells me everything else is fine. For shits and giggles boot off of the USB key. it probably has the boot sector on it hah

Guess try again by formatting and installing the OS.

Boot into a USB Stick of a install of windows. Click repair. Click Command prompt. And type this in. "sfc/scannow'" That should fix it.

So maybe the SSD is the culprit after all? o.O
I've already re-install the Windows quite few times and I keep facing the same problem. At first, I tried to using cloning method using Easeus but it keeps telling me that it can't clone from a different sector. So I'm trying a fresh install method and this happens. :(

Yeah I've found a YouTube video about that boot repair using command prompt using the installation files but I'm not trying that method yet so I try asking here if there's another workaround for that. I've thinking the same thing that maybe somehow the boot sector is installed on the USB key but that's not case since it wont even boot when the USB is attached :S

Here's my Rufus setting. Idk but maybe this will help if there's a mistake that I've been doing while creating an installation disk.

I've tried this method and it turns out nothing. It said that everything is in good condition. :'(

I've also tried that workaround that I found on YouTube. Here's the link to the video that I mentioned :

I've arrived at the very last part which in the end it tells me that no installation file detected while I'm already attaching the USB drive that contains the installation media.

I've attached my disk layout. Disk 1 is only for files, folders and all other media. Disk 2 contains Windows 10 which I'm booting on right now. Disk 3 is my SSD which contain the same copy of Windows 10 on disk 2 but when you look closely, there's no boot in disk 3 and that's the reason why it won't boot from the SSD despite I've done a fresh install on that particular disk.

I've done that but nothing seems changed. I've changed the cable and attach it another 6Gb/s SATA port. Any chance there's a problem with my SSD? :/

Sounds like a funky SSD tbh, refund / replacement. I had a similar issue with a WD Blue SSD, refunded it and bought a Corsair SSD and not a single issue

I almost think the same too. Everything work just fine like for storing things and stuff but when it comes to boot into windows, things got so messed up.

Unfortunately I didn't have any SSD lying around. This is my first time trying to use SSD though. I'll try to refund first if things will continue like this and maybe getting another SSD. :/
