Reccomend me some OS's to try out

Redempti0n

So I have an i5 surface pro 3 and I am currently messing around with different OS types on here to learn and mess around on. I have played with all the "common" Linux distros in the past, but I was wondering if there was anything out of the ordinary I should have a mess around with, Like android? Not sure if there is something for that in terms of laptops (My touchscreen shit itself so nothing that relies on it pls)

Re: operating systems:

OpenBSD is reported to boot on a Surface Pro 3.

I fell android would be out of the ordinary for a desktop environment

Anything that's not Windows or macOS is "out of the ordinary for a desktop environment" according to market share statistics.

Write in C.

I can agree to that, I might try remix OS to see if that is any fun to use

ZorinOS is "out of the ordinary." Ubuntu is really good, despite being one of the most popular Linux distros. Still, according to market share, it is still "out of the ordinary."

I have been running zorin for a bit now though it was a pain to get the trackpad on the surface cover to work

Try Linux Mint or Elementry OS! I've heard really good things about them.

Why Are We Still Here? Just to Suffer?

Start with "easy to setup"-distro's like Ubuntu/Mint/Elementary and work your way up via arch, gentoo, ... until you can build yourself an LFS-setup for daily use.

Be safe, don't drink and sudo

Laptop: ASUS K541UA (i5-6198DU, 8GB RAM, 250GB 850 EVO) OS: Debian Buster (KDE)

Desktop: i7-7700, ASUS Strix H270F, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD from laptop, some HDD's, iGPU, some NIC's, OS: Debian Buster (KDE)

Some good Intermediate level distros would be Fedora, Debian, Arch, Manjaro, if those sound too easy you should try Slackware, Calculate, TrueOS, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, if you want to go crazy try gentoo and you will never look back. Also, try out the big 5 desktop environments, KDE, Gnome, XFCE, Mate, Cinnamon, then try going with only a window manager like openbox, or i3, or awesome, theirs a ton of wm's you can choose from, I like pekwm, but I prefer Desktop Environments, and Mate is my favorite.

Maybe Damn small Linux or Tinycore Linux , they both are full Linux distributions with an image size of around ~50mb. Even functional on a Pentium 233 ;)

Otherwise Gentoo could be a great time sink as one can tweak and modify virtually everything, however it is said to be quite complicated to setup.

You could install Cent OS for free and maybe take a RedHat certification test later.

Arch linux is also a good start for pulling hair out.

Don't use RemixOS. Use Phoenix. It's already on Nougat (7.1), whereas RemixOS I believe is still on Marshmallow.
