Ryzen max safe voltage

So yet another post from me

sorry new platform lost of questions

in stable at 4ghz at 1.417 under full load (not under load idles at 1.439(wtf ?))

iv read loads of thing at 1.35 is the limit

1.45 is the limit

Xfr is pushing some people to 1.51v

so am I ok running 1.417/1.439 constant voltage?  Temps top out at 59 degrees under full load

Lol why me xD

I recall that the highest you should go is around 1.45v, kinda similar to skylake which is interesting :P.

Though I think closer to 1.4 is better.

Most likely though you'll hit a wall around 4 ghz anyways that won't require a whole 1.45v, but who knows.

1.450 prolly can be a controlled max with air/water cooling. most do recede to 1.375-1.425v, just watch the temperatures if you have a reliable monitoring app. 95° (75° + 20° offset = TctlMAX) on the core seems to the redline, 90° for intense workloads, or 85° for a 24/7 driver. So max recommended TCTL for 1600 is 95, 75° real.

1600 doesn't have the 20 degree off set only the x chips and my temps top at 60

Just fixed the vdroop issue so I can run 1.41v idle and under full load now

it flickers up to 1.44 for a split second every now and again but mostly 1.41v now :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Current "conventional" wisdom seems to be: do not exceed 1.4v for daily 24/7 usage, or you may see "some loss of component longevity". I couldn't get 4.0 stable @ 1.425 on my 1600, and that's where I drew the line. I'm back around 3.9 @ 1.4v now, and I'm going to see how much I can drop it (though I forgot to test 3.925, 3.95 and 3.975, which I may do if I get bored).

Iv read a lot that 1.45 is the line with good cooling

I was stable at 1.45 4ghz in everything apart from one program that crashed me in rendering even tho I passed r15 20 times,

however at 3.9 I dropped the voltage to 1.33 ate its stable in aida64 8 hours

and stable in rendering and gaming and temp are 50 max in gaming and rendering now so it was a lot of heat and voltage for pretty much no gain

When overclocking I monitor performance and power draw at each setting, and stop when diminishing returns kicks in.

Increasing my R7 1700 showed gradual performance increasing from 3.2 to 3.6 GHz, then required increased voltage to get to 3.7 and 3.8, although 3.8 GHz was only showing 1% (margin of error) performance increase over 3.6GHz. I just stuck with 3.8 GHz 1.3V as there was no benefit to me going higher. Different workloads use the processor differently, so assessing the CPU which your workload to make an informed decision is recommended.

I would not imagine you would see huge performance differences at 4.0GHz over 3.9Ghz, and if it is more stable, it makes sense to stick with it.
