*Help* 290x Crossfire, 2nd card is always idle

Hey guys, thanks for stopping by. I have a Ryzen 7 1700 on an ASRock x370 SLI/AC motherboard, 16GB GSkill 2800 Mhz ram and two Sapphire R9 290x in crossfire. For some reason even under load my second card is reporting as idle at 300mhz and shows change in load, temps or fan speed. I swapped the cards to make sure the gpu wasn't dead, still the 2nd card is idle. Any help is greatly appreciated.

is crossfire enabled in the drivers?

 

and are you using a Crossfire bridge? (can't remember when AMD cards stopped using bridges)

it is enabled, no crossfire bridge on the r9 series and beyond

I found it. In the bios for my motherboard it was set to PCI-E 1x16 instead of 2x8... this should auto detect but you know..

Crossfire is now supported on the board itself. Older cards do need a bridge though.

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

 

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe

yeah, i just couldn't remember if it was the R9 2 or 3 series they did away with the need for a bridge.
