Hey guys,

 

i have been given an Xserve 2.8ghz 8 core manchine! 

 

Do do you have any ideas? I am thinking plex/media server?

Toss it. They going to be very powerhungry and its cheaper to buy a new lowerpower system like a nuc.

 

They have had there support dropped, and its only real use is to manage mac os x systems.

sell it, they are quite a collector's item

even though they are useless, they fetch a lot of money from collectors

unless you are a collector, then maybe don't sell it and keep it

How do people manage to be GIVEN this kind of stuff?!

You can always run Linux on it.

That makes it much more useful as a server.
