is my ODD going out, or is there another issue at play? possibly looking for replacement BD-drive

recently i have been having issues with my optical drive, an asus BW-12b1st a. ive had no issues with it in the past, until recently when i reinstalled windows 10. windows will boot, and then ither after a few minutes of non-use, or if i do use it 1 or 2 times, windows will no longer see it. i will openly admit, the drive has been in the system since it was built a few years back, but i just used it to re-install windows 10 from a disc, then used it again to make a fresh from disc OS image, and then witched a few movies with it, all with out issue. could it have just suddenly gone bad? i am testing a spare drive in my system rite now, and it seems to be working without a hitch. i do plan i test with with another system once i get the chance, so ill see what results that turns up.  now all that said, if i do end up with more problems with this drive, what would be a recommended replacement blu-ray drive?

Check the connections from the ODD to the MoBo and the power connection

i have thought of that, just not had the chance to really try it. and actually, i did just use a spare ODD to successfully burn some dvd's, using the same connector cables, going to the same spot on the MOBO as the asus, so i need to try sliding it back in.
