i5 4690k vs i7 7700k

I currently have an i5 4690k (at stock). Sometime during the holidays this year, im considering going up to i7 7700k, requiring me to do a major hardware ugrade on other compenents (ram and mobo). Since Ryzen came out, I already noticed a $10 price reduction on Amazon. At the moment, my i5 paired with my gtx 1080 run GTA on all max setting usually anywhere between a solid 55-85 fps (depending on where i am on the map. And driving is usually on the low end, even dipping into 40's) So how worth it is it in the eyes of this community for me to go forth with this upgrade? Or what  other options should i consider?

To be perfectly honest, an i7 6700k would do you fine. Even if you're playing at 1440p or higher. You'll be saving a bit with the 6700k over the 7700k.

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070

MOBO: ASUS Z370-F STRIX

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133MHz

I just checked that cpu out rn and, since its still 1151, id have to go forward with the whole rig upgrade. And for 40 bucks more, i would be getting the newest (which i admit is a very commonly a useless perk) but really, what kind of difference can i expect to see going with wither of these cpus? How significant will my upgrade be?

*Also, i game @1080 w/144hz monitor

A 6700k will do you just fine. I play high texture games at 1080p 60Hz on my 4460, it works fine.
