Good CPU for my new RX 480?

Hey guys!

 

As of recent I've been getting into PC building. Looking at budget GPUs, the RX 480 has been tickling my fancy.

But what I wanna know exactly is, what CPU goes best with this GPU? I'm on a AMD CPU budget atm, so rule out all Intel for now. (but for future reference, go ahead)

Wait for Ryzen. No sense in getting an amd CPU now, they are horribly out of date and there next line of CPUs are very near.

I would pair an RX 480 with at least a latest Intel 2-core Hyperthreaded CPU, like the Pentium G4560 (about $70, but motherboards for it cost a bunch of money).

 

But really what you should tell us is what's your budget for building a computer.

The only AMD CPUs worth buying wouldn't go with your current Mobo so excluding Intel does you no good. Either grab a current intel CPU, or wait for ryzen to drop.

Don't waste money, the FX-8300 or 8320E tend to be cheaper and you can OC them to hit the same clocks as the 8350.

no it'll use AM4. different motherboard and DDR4 RAM now

One of the new Pentiums would actually probably work. As for the AMD side, 6300 at the least, but I'd wait for Ryzen if AMD is your plan.

Thanks a bunch! Also my budget is about 550$-ish. I'll be using it for mid-range gaming and High School reports on the down low.

$550, and what hardware do you already have?

 

The first thing i'll tell you is that you shouldn't spend the additional money on a 8GB 480, the 4GB model is still enough VRAM and it saves you $40-$50

Nah I was already aiming for the 4GB model anyway. Hardware wise I haven't gotten down to finding the proper motherboard, ram, PSU and case I'd want. Been hella busy as of recent.

Do you already own an AMD motherboard? If you don't, Intel is better for games at the moment (this might change soon, as soon as March this year).

Yeah, mainly because my HDD has never gave me 50sec load time. Seriously, never have had to wait more than like 15-20secs really.

Tbh anything could beat my old integrated AMD PC that I had for schooling. Thing took nearly 2 minutes to boot everytime.

You're really getting a beefy computer there. You can save a bit more money if you have a friend with a Skylake chip that you could borrow to flash the motherboard BIOS so it can support the new Kaby Lake CPUs, then get a Pentium G4560.

I dunno I have a pretty fast Enterprise HDD and OS load times were closer to 50 than to 20
