A few questions about HDDs and OSs

i got a HDD in a system already with windows on it and i plan on making a new coputer (my first one) and i was wondering if i could take the hdd and put it in the new computer and not have to get another copy of windows?

You could, but most likely the operating system won't function as well and as fast as if you would install the operating from scratch on your new computer.

 

At first boot, the operating system should detect all the new hardware and look for drivers which you can install from the motherboard's DVD (or just install the network card's driver to get your Internet working and then download the latest drivers from AMD (if AMD chipsets) or from your motherboard's product page.

 

Once the new drivers are detected and installed, the operating system should run fine, but in some rare cases files left from old drivers can interact with the files of new drivers,applications could still have some configuration settings they auto detected and tweaked for your old hardware so they may not run as fast as your modern hardware could do...

you can. there are programs to migrate windows. but that could also lead to trouble. you also need to re-enter you product key. simply moving windows won't work
