Looking for a compact camera

Naith123

My dad is looking for a nice compact camera to replace our 5 year old fella who on his trip to Israel later this year.  He is looking for something with Wi-Fi/NFC with a decent mega-pixel (Probably will be getting a 4K screen in a year.)  He wants  20x optical zoom and good low light performance.  So basically everything.  He wants to use this one camera for everything and not to need to fiddle around with lenses.  He's got  about £200-250 as a budget.

My cursory glance came across these two;

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX60

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Cyber-SHOT-DSC-HX60-Optical--inch/dp/B00I9X2KLW/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1470247037&sr=1-2&keywords=Sony+DSCHX60

Panasonic DMC-TZ60EB-K

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMC-TZ60EB-K-Compact-Digital-Sensitivity/dp/B00HO37V4O/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1471893648&sr=1-2&keywords=Panasonic+Lumix+TZ60

Are these any good or do you have any better ideas.

The Sony RX100 is really nice. It basically does it all. But to get 4K and really good lowlight your need to get the newer one, which is very expensive. I'd look to see which generation of the RX100 fits your budget.

Was just going to say the same thing - Sony's RX100 is hands down the best compact camera on the market right now.

Well, besides the offerings from Fuji (X100) and Panasonic's LX100. It is a little over his budget, though.

If your friend can find the RX100 MKII or MKIII on offer / on sale then I'd see if that will work for him.

Here is a good comparison of all of Sony's RX100 MKI / II / III / IV cameras for your perusal.

Desktop: KiRaShi-Intel-2022 (i5-12600K, RTX2060) Mobile: OnePlus 5T | Koodo - 75GB Data + Data Rollover for $45/month
Laptop: Dell XPS 15 9560 (the real 15" MacBook Pro that Apple didn't make) Tablet: iPad Mini 5 | Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 10.1
Camera: Canon M6 Mark II | Canon Rebel T1i (500D) | Canon SX280 | Panasonic TS20D Music: Spotify Premium (CIRCA '08)

The RX100 is great, but even the mk1 is over budget, and it does not have 20x optical zoom

so might not suit

Something like this? for £250

http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-panasonic-lumix-dmc-tz60-digital-camera/p1547269

Or if he can stretch to £300 the sony HX90v is a good camera, I really like what sony do on their compacts

http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-sony-cyber-shot-hx90v-digital-camera/p1571552

Its hard to say much, most compact cameras are very similar so I suggest reading reviews, looking at sample photos and videos etc

Its not something I would ever purchase so very hard for me to give advice

here are the £200-300 compact cameras

The RX100 mk1 is available at £279 and would be the best option, as long as he can do without crazy zoom levels

considering 20x zoom is...more than you get on like £5000 DSLR set ups

I would try to find one of the earlier RX100 for sale somewhere seems to be one of the best options avalible. Even 10% could make it fit into the budget. [Edit] Might be hard to find it for 250 I just realised. Thought It could have been easier.
