If you're only running 1080p, definitely go for the 1060. I have the 1070 and it's totally overkill (don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's definitely overkill). If you're going to move to 4k, you'll need a 1080 though, or two 1070s. Your options are to buy 1060 now, sell it later, and buy new card, or buy 1070 now and then buy another once you have 4k monitor. More expensive that way though.

EDIT: 1060 is power of a 980 and cheaper/same price as 970, so definitely get it over a 970 (there's literally no reason to get the 970 at all).

Hello Guyz..

I m having a bit of a confusion on the selection of the graphics card.

My current PC configuration is

Asus H97 Pro

Kingston hyperx fury 8gb

intel i5 4460

samsung 850 evo 120 gb

corsair cx430

i was going to buy the ASUS gtx 970 strix but the new 10 series card lunch had made me a little confused

ASUS GTX 1060 strix looks fine to me, or do i go for the GTX 970 STRIX.

No, but the cx series psu's are very hit and miss I would suggest changing to something that is better quality.

OAS || AAS || LLS

If i remember right the gtx 1070 is approximately 25% more powerful than the 1060... but it costs 190$ more (from amazon, anyways)...

The GTX 1070 is a lot faster than the 1060, but for way more money. If you're asking if the performance difference matches the price difference, it does not.

But whether you actually need that much performance for the type of gaming you're going to be doing is the question. What resolution are you using? What games are you planning to play? What framerate do you want to maintain? How long before you're willing to start dropping settings to stay at that resolution & framerate?

Just did the math... the 1070 is 60% more expensive, but only gives 25% boost in performance from a 1060... i'll let you be the judge if its worth it

He meant 1060

1060 has 6GB VRAM vs 3.5GB for the 970

The 1060 is more powerful and more power efficient

And it's only $250
