$500 college laptop? Surface pro 3 or alternative?

Yup, another college laptop thread. **I don't mind buying used**

 

My needs are:

• Long battery (7+ hours)
• Touch screen for note taking
• Light

I was thinking of getting a used Surface pro 3 for ~$500 US, but since it's almost 2 years old I was wondering if I should try for something else? Any suggestions?

Something else for sure. These are four nice laptops I've been looking at personally, 2 have a touch screen, however I can't speak for the battery life or the weight really since I don't own any of them.

Ahh that Aspire is pretty nice. I'll have to take a look pretty powerful, I was going to go with a 940m i5 based Dell but the A10 8700p actually edges it out overall except for in shader performance.

I can only find that in random european stores  But I think I want something more powerful, 1080p and 8Gb ram preferred

Ok. So if youre looking for some more horsepower I would suggest the 

Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro 7-591G-53V3 It's got 16 GB of ram. Is that sufficient enough?  Also the 1080p screen is IPS!
