My old iPhone 4S overheated when it was a really hot day and in direct sunlight. All it required was some time out to cool down. However I have never experienced it during charging. Maybe leave it off for a while and see how it goes.

I've got a defy and haven't had this issue, maybe open it up and clean it out if its got dirt in it?

maybe another thing your battery might be dropping a cell

didnt think of this

charging plus heavy usage would put a uneven load on the battery and Lipos dont like that.

so yeah your phone is fine just don't heavily use it while charging

Not much you can do to improve an overheating phone besides turning off all apps and only charging the battery within a cool environment.

Dirt free, it's been in a otter box since Day one. Power button quit working a couple weeks ago and had to download an app that lets me use the volume to unlock the phone. Had it for a little over a year and it's almost time for an upgrade so I just hopes it makes it to then.
