First time building PC and my build!

First time building a gaming PC and, even though I had my PC gaming enthusiast friend look over and was actually the one who made this build, I would feel better if someone could look over my build and tell me if there is anything right or wrong about this. Also, I would like to hear any recommendations that you guys prefer if you have any. Thanks!

2. ehh, 4gb of ram arent going to cut it in the long run

3. Dont need that psu for a single card, but i guess you plan to use sli.

4. Id seriously suggest getting at least a 256gb ssd, it does make a biiiiig difference in overall snappiness ( and load times in many games).

4gb was a typo Im updating it now.

 

and the psu is there because im planing on getting double 980ti's down the road

Here are a few things that I would personally change:

 

1. Change the CPU to a i5-6600

2. For the CPU cooler, I would get a Corsair H100i

3. MSI GTX 970 4GB. It has a beefier heatsink and it can overclock like crazy.

4. Change the RAM to G.Skill 8GB (1x8) DDR3 1600MHz

5. Downgrade the PSU to a Corsair 650W. 850 is way too much!

 

That is pretty much it.. The motherboard is alright.

Hoo boy where do i start? Skylake offers better performance and ubgradability (usb 3.1 and nvme support), An air cooler is good enough for light to medium oc, though you can replace it if you want. 4Gb RAM isnt anywhere close to enough; 8Gb is the minimum these days, though its cheap enough that you can pick up 16Gb easily with that budget. Youd want an SSD these days and the 850 evo is the best sata one you can get, and with an ssd ,theres no need for a hybrid drive. For the GPU, a 390 offers better price for performance. For the power supply the CX series is strongly recommended against. Go with a tier 1 or 2 PSU (refer to this) For the monitor, thats a pretty old model and is overpriced. heres my goto 1080p model-its ips, thin bezels, and 24".

This is with future sli in mind, if you wont do that you can cut 50$ off.

 

Went with a 1440p monitor because a 980 ti is wasted in 1080p and it looks way better :D.

Also Oc to 4.6 or so with that, its super easy.

 

Add storage as you go, 500gb and 1tb hdds are pretty much scrap metal right now, so grab one to store some more games at some point (I literally have a box with hdds lying around, Id give you one if you werent thousands of miles away).

Since you already have a good mobo, and cpu cooler, I would change the cpu to an i5 4690k. I would also add a 256gb SSD.

Finally, I would do at least 8gb of ram. Something like this:

use the ssd for boot drive, essential apps and slow loading games, and the hdd for everything else. the sshd is just a hdd with a small ssd cache, whatever isn't on that cache runs just as slowly as a normal hdd. you may think its simpler but you'll lose out alot in overall speed.
