You can use AMD CPU's. FreeNAS runs on the FreeBSD kernel which supports x86 and x86_64 processors.

No you're not. AMD cpu's can work but the FreeNAS community highly recommends you stick with intel because of better support. Some of the people on the FreeNAS forum don't bother helping people who don't follow the minimum of an intel cpu and 8gb ECC RAM.

You may want to take a look at Xpenology, its a hacked version of Synology Diskstation. The install is a bit more difficult than FreeNAS, but actually using and configuring it is much easier, plus it has an "app" for running a Plex server.

Runs on AMD systems?

You can run FreeNAS on any hardware you want, there's just strong recommendations that affect performance and data integrity. Or you could just put M$ Windows Server on it.
