Direct a domain name to it.

How would you do that?

You need several things:

* You need to unblock port 80 (and 443) through your router to make it readable through your public IP address.

   * This step is totally different depending on the router, but usually means going to the web panel and saying "I want port 80 to go to my local IP"

   * Which reminds me, your server needs to have a static local IP address. You can set that through your router (preferred), or through windows

   * ISPs have rules on this. We are generally good in the UK, but check first.

* You can connect through your IP, but that probably changes all the time. Look into dynamic dns.

   * I use no-ip for my dyndns. You run an application on your desktop (or router) and it will match a subdomain e.g. terahertz.no-ip.org to your public IP

That should be about it, good luck on the research.
