AMD or Intel for HTPC?

Cohacq

I'm currently building a PC for my brother, but I can't decide on what CPU to use. I will use either the AMD A4-5300 or the Intel Pentium G2020. The PC will be used for watching movies, playing music and browsing the internet. Which one will be the best choice?

The htpc im planning at the moment is going to have an AMD A4-5300 just because its cheap and a pc doesn't need a baller CPU to play movies.

I would go for the Intel because of the lower power usage which means you will be able to make a quieter computer.

Both have graphics built in so you would be good to go, but I would still spend $40 and get something like a GT 610 for dedicated graphics.

I would go with an AMD APU for HTPC.

For a HTPC I'd go with an AMD APU because of the low price and the great graphics integrated in the processor which is great for movies, working, browsing the internet and even some games in very good resolutions.

I made this build for a office autocad workstation for a local business that needed a replacement tower. It would be great as an HTPC, only you might want to use a case with more HDD slots. I probably could have gotten away with a lesser APU but it was already so cheap I decided not to bother. My personal HTPC actually has an E8400 with a 7770 for playing the occasional game.

I would go for an AMD A4-5300 APU because it is cheap and it has integrated graphics unlike the Pentium. So you won't need to buy a GPU in order to run your HTPC.
