i5-3470 vs i5-3570k

I have a i5-3470 it is clocked at a 4 GHz turbo bios awesomeness what performance boost would i get by switching to a i5-3570k considering i just bought this 3470 is the performance worth another 120 bucks ?

whats your cooler? is it is something alone the lines of a h80-h100 or NH-D14 then just sell your 3470, get a 3770K and over clock the poop out of it, if not a quad core 3470 is a just fine CPU :)

If this is for gaming a 3770K is a massive waste of money... 3570K will just let you overclock which also depends on your motherboard and PSU.

3770K is unless for gaming. 3570K is just as good and better in some rare cases.

its mainly for hardcore games because i notice cpu lag in arma with alot of ai my fatal1ty 550 is pretty ballin for now and i have a kuhler 620 which my 3470 never goes over 40c in huge stress. but what im saying is will the 3570k beat out a 3470 if they are at the same clock speeds. but i would like 4.2 ghz without having to go crazy turbo.

hahaha that is completly false i could tell its cpu lag you can move quick but it seems slow hard to explain but i doubt a 7950 equivalent is any where near laggy in arma 2.

It's probably just a game optimization issue, no need to go spending 120$ on a CPU upgrade for it.

Sorry, but what GPU do you have? And no, 3570k isn't really worth it imo, unless you're made of money.

yeah that's what i was thinking arma 3 should be very well optimized however.

Dual sapphire vapor-x 7770 clocked at 1150/1350.
That's the problem.! Thats a budget level graphics card with a performance processor. Its NOT a "7950 equivalent". There's more to a GPU than clock speeds. A LOT more. http://www.hwcompare.com/11882/radeon-hd-7770-vs-radeon-hd-7950/ Check that out. It really doesn't make much of a difference, your overclock, when you're talking a 233% larger memory bandwidth, a MUCH more powerful GPU, etc etc.

I was very concerned when you said "7950 equivalent" earlier, as I thought you meant like a knock off. But now its just obvious that you don't quite understand how PC parts work, (no offense!), in that there's a lot more to a GPU and even CPU's than simply clock speed. You are NOT paying an extra $200 just for a little bit of an overclock... lol

As linus repeats over and over in his videos.... NEVER crossfire/sli two budget/value cards. Just sell it and upgrade to a performance tier card. Even a 7870 or so will be much more powerful than that setup.

Spend the money to upgrade to a REAL graphics card, and your lag will be gone.

Edit: After doing some more research, I do see what you mean. However, they're not quite equivalent. You still have to deal with the smaller memory bandwidth, driver issues, and other disadvantages. This is still probably your issue, and I would recommend upgrading to a better graphics card (single card), and selling your dual 7770s. The cards are whats holding you back, as its creating a bottleneck. This could be further evidenced if you provided the settings you're trying to run the game at. (1080p at ultra, or what not)... That 128bit memory is just not up to it...

It's not really equivalent... at all... 7950 is still better in many ways...

it has a few more cores but with my oc both are a reference 7950 equivalent.

Well none of your info made sense that's a single 7770 reference 1 vapor-x alone is up to 20 % percent faster than reference and its crossfire there not all the way a 7950 but there between a 7870 and a 7950 if you can add and multiply most of that info by 2 and add 20% more performance you land right between those two cards so you quite don't understand crossfire or really anything that im talking about i never said anything is totally based on clock speeds 7770s are never a bottle neck arma is a poorly optimized game considering it came out with only dual core CPU support maybe you should do all of your research before talking about REAL gfx cards i assume you own a 7970 or something. in ending Bandwidth of that size really doesn't give you much of a boost sure it gets like 15-20 fps better in most games also to follow up Linus was referring to the problems with drivers and support {doesn't really exist anymore} not power and please do not just rant about random things that i already stated that i know weren't problems Thank You. :)

I hope you realise you cant say 7950 equivalent just from overclock. Because you can overclock both. Also what resolution are you running at? For most games its the gpu.

i forgot the {solved} post its the game mode i played it spawned about 400 AI in one spot and to Brendan i didn't say its oc makes it equivalent the cores and hardware are just in between a 7870 and 7950 but more over to the 7950 i run 1080p also no problems at all anymore.
