How to Setup a Gmod Server

Hello all. As the name implies I want to know how to setup a Gmod server. I'm kind of a noob at this so it would be nice if you could give me specifics and if possible, post a link me to a tutorial video or something. All feedback is appreciated!

I would love to know this as well, seeing as every time I try to set one up, it somehow doesn't work.

Dedicated?

It's really not easy, you have to grab the core files from HL2, HL2MP, DODS, CSS, TF2 and a few others I don't remember offhand. Last time I did it you had to get the files for each game one at a time which takes a verrrrrrrrry looooooooooooong time, perhaps they've made it easier now?

Either way it takes a long time and huge amount of HDD space.

Use hamachi... simple...

nooooo do not use hamachi. it will lag like hell.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

That does little to actually address the situation. When I download Hamachi, what do I do with it? Is there a better way?

I'd advise against using Hamachi, as that has given me and my friends nothing but trouble and high ping whenever I try it, and anyone wishing to join will need to have Hamachi.

I would love to know this as well, seeing as every time I try to set one up, it somehow doesn't work.

You'll have to forward your ports on your router, and you should be able to easily host Garry's mod servers from then on.

 

You'll need to forward ports 27015 and 27005 on both TCP and UDP, how to go about doing it is dependent on what router you have.

make a network. than right click on your name and click "Copy IPv4 adress". Start Gmod, click new game, select map, select amount of player, and start the server. Now give the you IP to your friend and tell them do open the console and type "Connect [the IP you gave]"
