You want to see a big drop in pirating? Its easy. Stop asking most people to skip paying rent or bills if they wana buy your game!

That's not how capitalism works. You don't just get to say, "I can't afford this luxury item but I want it badly so I'm going to acquire it illegally anyways." 

 

They need to recoup the production cost, that's why AAA games are so expensive. Indie games are cheaper because they don't often have an entire team of programmers, 3D modelers, artists, marketing people, sales people, distribution, and supply chain management. They have like three guys coding in a basement with one drawing up assets in MS Paint because he's such an amazing artist.

I say if you can't afford AAA games get indy games, it's what I do and many of them are far more interesting and enjoyable than AAA games. Braid, for example, is considered one of the best video games of all time, but it's only $19.99 for a DRM-free copy.
