I have so many questions. iStar E-490-JB

Tithonius

Ok, so today I have been looking for a long term solution to my home Unraid box being full. I currently have this case. (http://www.istarusa.com/en/istarusa/products.php?model=D-410-DE8-225T)

I am setup with some 8TB disks and some other second hand hardware. But the issue is that the server is really getting full. I have the black tray handles and would like to build a DAS that has the same trays, or even the same enclosures. I found that istar sells this chassis (http://www.istarusa.com/en/istarusa/products.php?model=E-490-JB) but i am not sure how exactly to make it work. I can get more of the drive enclosures and fill the chassis no problem. I have no idea how to even do something like this in a case like that. I would ideally like to just grab a bunch of the istar 5.25 to 3.5 tray-less enclosures that match my existing chassis then wire them all to have just a sff-8088 port in the back. (My server already has a sff-8088 external port on the LSI 414e that i have.)

The idea is that i'm looking for something like this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LSQOY6G/?coliid=IIFZY6G21MO0I&colid=33G0P1X5AFZZ6&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it) but with istar trays that match my server that i already have. Wont mind buying parts and building somthing, but have no idea where to even start and google has failed me. Thanks for the help!

Collecting every single CPU in existence? Is it possible? I have no idea, but i'm sure gonna try! http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/341848-dont-throw-away-old-cpus-im-collecting/

I also would like to refrain from having cables hanging out the back of my chassis, and would rather have a port and use an external cable. I could be convinced if it was not too ugly.

So i guess this is the solution im looking for? http://www.istarusa.com/en/raidage/products.php?model=DAGE412U20-3MS is that right? would i need to wire all 3 ports in the back for this chassis?

Looks like each box of 4 drives has its own HBA. In that case, you would need to hook up all three, yes.

Other than that, that box does look like a pretty good solution for what you're going for here.
