New graphics card for am3+ socket

Hello, I'm in the process of upgrading my pc but I dont want to have to get a whole new motherboard for it my specs are: 760gm-hdv motherboard, amd fx-vishera 6300 6 core 6 thread cpu, and 12 gigs of vengeance ram but my GPU is a nvidia 660ti and I feel I could run games so much better if I had a better graphics card

I doubt that. That CPU is shit, a new GPU won't magically make it better.

 

Download MSI Afterburner, enable OSD for each individual CPU-core and then check if any of the cores are at 90% or higher -- if so, your CPU is already going as hard as it can and it'll just bottleneck a new GPU hard.

Likely could.  Am3+ had pcie3 iirc which means any gpu would work.  How well is another question.  The problem is that cpu is not-so-fast 6/6, so it’s about in line with my 4770k that has 4/8. Perhaps a bit faster, but not all that much.

You are running an FX CPU on a board designed for NONFX Phenom chips in Mind,.. but support for FX was patched in to sell the board after some time...

These 700/800 series boards don't really like FX6/8 powerdraw and throttle (even at LOW CPU temps) due to power going through the VRMs, they can't handle it, get too hot, have a different temp limit as well board to board (can be 65*c or 55*c), and trip for a locked 1.4Ghz when gaming if it throttles when going past that temp.
Many threads get created for this throttling, a "almost cure" is to throw or jerryrig a 120mm fan at decent speeds pointed at the VRM area on the left of the CPU.

I WOULD update your board to a 970/990 chipset if you can find a cheap one, or just save more,..upgrade to a better platform (z68/z77/z97) on the cheap if not a AMD 3100x system.

Nothing far above GTX 970 levels IMHO so a RX580 or RX5500XT are good picks if the power supply can manage, I know since I used the Athlon X4 880K with a GTX 970 for a long time... UwU
