System Wont Shut Down Automaticly

aleclair420
Go to solution Solved by aleclair420,

i fixed it single os machine have backtrack 5 on disk coulda used but played in registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management   ClearPageFile at Shutdown

set to 0 and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l  WaitToKillServiceTimeout

set to 1000

reboot and does a full reboot no hanging for ever on shutting down screen, i hate playing in regedit tho.. can be risky

Have a custom built rig, this just started recently but when go to restart or shut down will just sit at Shutting down screen after logging off account and not move no matter how long there.

Already reset cmos, uninstall all new programs, ran virus scan and malware scan in safe mode, no error file being generated from this. I have to manually press power button or reset button to get to move from that screen. Only option i see left is a reinstall of windows which i dont really want to have to do but think have to unless anyone here can figure it out.

Have you tried shutting down with a single monitor setup just out of curiosity?

Try disabling speed-stepping, it might be making your system hang.

export PS1='\[\033[1;30m\]┌╼ \[\033[1;32m\]\u@\h\[\033[1;30m\] ╾╼ \[\033[0;34m\]\w\[\033[0;36m\]\n\[\033[1;30m\]└╼ \[\033[1;37m\]'

EDIT:  tried single monitor in both dvi ports same spinning circle on shutdown screen hear HDD sounds like something is holding shutdown up some program just cant figure out which one..

any one know program maybe record what gets shut down and what dosnt.. fact it dosnt shut down properly tho dont think would be able save it and be helpful.

Go in to safemode and try shutting it down and see if the problem persists

Have you tested your drive? I had one that did the same thing, and found out I had a faulty HDD. It could have been the new windows install that fixed the problem though.

go into msconfig, and disable all Services (check the box that says hide all Microsoft services) and all startup items, try it after that, if it shuts down normally, start enabling one by one to narrow it down to whats making it hang.

Crew- unlikely to be a service after ts so far, safe mode only has bare minimal services run for windows to boot. I am starting to think the shutdown file or code inside it got corrupt and thats holding up at this point. Safemode eliminated program as possible cause and service running. No new hardware so nothing there, uninstalled all newest programs and cleared their temp files manually in appdata folders..

Try booting a Linux Live CD/DVD/USB Drive

I need more SSDs.
