Best CPU + GPU Combination For $600-900 Build

I havent pay much attention to computer hardware lately, but when i ask my friend, i5 9400 + Radeon 5600/5700 XT is the way to go for $600'ish to $900 build which are mainly used for gaming and maybe some light video editing.

 

Is that true? or are there better alternative from AMD and Nvidia for the CPU/GPU?

in my opinion, the new zen+ ryzen 3 3300x will fare much better than the i5 9400. its overall one of the best bang for buck cpus out there and it is very good for gaming. it would be a killer combo if you paired it with the 5700xt.also, i think its about 10-20 USD cheaper then the i5

I would agree with this. Great value system and excellent for gaming. If you really need the 6 cores, take the R5 3600 instead of the i5, if not the 3300x is will be great

it will fetch you 5-10 fps more than the i5 9400. its single ccx structure reduces latency between the 4 physical cores, resulting in faster operation. as of now it retails 120 USD, and is an absolute bargain for the performance it delivers

as he said, if your budget allows it get the 3600 as it is better for multitasking and has more cores, which may be helpful as  a lot of future games will utilise more cores. but if you want a processor for gaming that will run games easily for the next 5-8 years or so, go for the 3300x

How bout the GPU? any candidate from NVIDIA?

Also for Ryzen you can get a good b450 or b550 (when they come out) that would allow you to upgrade up to a 16-core later, or Ryzen 4th gen, if your so inclined. 9th gen intel is the last on LGA 1151, so there's no future upgrade to newer generations.

5700XT is somewhere in between the 2060 SUPER and 2070 SUPER, with its price also being in between. all 3 are great value, just depends on how much you would like to spend.

to be honest, the rx 5700xt is an excellent gpu and it outperforms the nvidia gpus of the same price rate. the 5700xt is like getting a 1080ti for far cheaper, and almost same performance, though the 1080ti may get you just 5-10 more fps on 1080p 60fps. if you want the 3600 and your budget doesnt allow the 5700xt with it, then go for a rx590 or a 5600/5500xt. but if i were making the choice, since its a gaming build, i would go for a 3300x with the 5700xt

about this, DONT GET AN A320 CHIPSET MOBO. either go for a good b450 or wait for the b550 mobos to come out (which support pci3 4.0 which support future upgrades). tbh intel is out of the question for budget builds nowadays, amd blows it out of the park when it comes to performance for price cpus
