Need help switching from Intel to Ryzen

Hello everyone, 

 

I recently built my first PC but I've been having some trouble ever since I transferred over my SSD from my old PC with it's Windows 10 OS and all it's old files.  It's still got all the old intel and motherboard drivers I no longer need and I've having problems. I would like to somehow keep everything that's important. Games, photos, files etc but start fresh with a fresh setup that's built for Ryzen instead.

Can I keep my same Windows licences to do this? or do I need to get a new one? Also how do I transfer over what I need without getting all the junk that's left over from my last PC? 

 

Any advice would be much appreciated. I have an external drive I could put stuff on while working on clearing the SSD.

Ideally, you will need another harddrive, portable or internal, to copy all of your data over to.

 

You don't need a new license, Windows 10 has a "start fresh" feature that is basically a reformat. Super convenient to use.

usually windows keys are linked to the motherboard, but i believe you can link it to your MS account instead then you can transfer it.

 

get a large flash drive or external hard drive and dump all the data you want to keep there. then use another usb flash drive to create an install media with windows media creation tool. reinstall a fresh copy of windows into the ssd then dump all your data back in.

Thank you for all the advise.

I can work on getting stuff to the external drive. but what's the best way to move stuff between drives? It is best to just clone the drive? or should I try to move things over more deliberately?

If you keep everything then clone the drive. Otherwise only copy the files you want to keep.
