Can I upgrade from my 1070 to a 2070?

Vibora

Hey, Im running a system with a GTX 1070 and a i7-8700 with a Corsair RMx(?) 550w PSU.

Is it possible for me to switch to the 2070 or do I need a higher wattage PSU?

What's your monitor resolution/refresh rate?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

You’d be fine with a 550W PSU if you want to upgrade to a 2070.

What's your CPU then? Because that's mostly what limits your max fps. *an 8700 should be fine for for 120fps+ in just about any game. 5ghz would push it a bit further.

Also why upgrade now? As the 30 series isn't too far out.

the 2070 recommends a PSU of at least 650 but it only draws around 250w at most so you will be fine with it

Soon enough anyways.

If you're trying to hit 180fps stable in some game for example, that just might not be possible with current CPUs, even if you dropped to like 480p low settings.

so a GPU upgrade wouldn't help with that.

the 30XX series is not going to be out soon in what they are thinking. the "release" date most have been hearing about is more than likely just the announcement date that they are going to be making those cards and then it will still be months or a year before they are on the shelves because every dealer that is going to be selling them is going to need a stock for them and that is all over the world which takes time. not to mention what is going on right now slowing everything down to a crawl.

Just wait then lol, your 1070 should still be just fine for 1080p gaming.

and if it's for ray tracing, then AMD is about to have a thing I think, or the 30 series should just be massively improved there anyways.

How is the 2070 for 1440p gaming?

The 2070 is ~= to a 1080

it's only like a 20-25% jump in raw performance anyways, just wait

30 series should be out Q4 of this year.
