refurbished laptop hdd with usb 3.1?

Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

3.1 gen 1 or 3.1 gen 1.

3.1 gen 1 is exactly the same as 3.0

3.1 gen 2 can do 10gb/s

But your gonna be limited by the hdd.

Hi! I am refurbishing a 250 GB hdd from my old DELL laptop. To use it as an external drive I am going to buy a case for it. I found one that is compatible with 2.5 coll hdd and ssd wich is great because i will be able to use it with a newer ssd later on. the case uses usb 3.1. Obviously it won't reach ssd speeds but will it be faster than 3.0 with the hdd or will the hdd itself bottleneck and it won't matter??

It won't be faster than a regular 3.0.

The drive will max out at 100 MB/s anyway.
