headphones' mic not working *pls give me a solution*

I was previously using a laptop and my headphones' mic was working perfectly bi=ut when I try to talk on my new desktop it just doesn't work..

like do I need a gaming headset to be able to talk.

 

pls help if you know what I need!!

go to control panel then to sound and set the main audio device to default. if nothing shows up in the sound section you need to buy a sound card.

 

(if its a older pc it probably just needs a bios update)

before you do what i said can you hear anything though the headset

Do your headphones have one single 3.5mm connector, two 3.5mm connectors or a USB plug?

Then you need a cable like this: https://www.amazon.com/Splitter-Gold-Plated-Separate-Microphone-Headphone/dp/B07FB9WC92

Laptops often have a combined headphone+microphone jack. PC motherboards and 99% of cases do not. You need a splitter cable (a 4 pin 3.5mm female to two 3.5mm male jacks. The 4 pin part is important)

tried everyone but it just does not work also my friend has the same pc but he has like a heaset with some weird thing where he plugs in his mic and the other cable
