Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

I am going to buy a new power supply.

Got a few and only options (They all are used so no warranty ;/)

Antec NeoEco 450C

Cooler Master MWE500 Bronze

Cooler Master V450 Semi Modular

---My specs are

i5 2400

GTX950

8gb ddr3 133mhz

---Maybe a Note

I have a sort of weak heart so i want to avoid any explosions (as it may result in heart attack or something) I am really scared of these explosions.

So which is the best one?

I would advise against buying a used power supply, especially those without warranty.

- Bad

- between meh and alright, depending on the revision

- Good

- Good

But I still wouldn't buy second hand.

How much more would a new CX550 or CX450 be compared to any of these second hand?

There is only a VS 2017 unit on a website that is out of stock (for years)\

My only option is used as i cant go for box packed.

The seller will give me a 7 Days Checking warranty thou

A seven day warranty on devices that should have a 3 to 7 year warranty does not sound like enough in my mind.

Do you not have warranty through the manufacturer (Corsair, Coolermaster, etc.) after buying?

I would still not recommend buying used, but do what you want.

Its the only option here.

I  am okay with the PSU going bad after a year or so.

They are 40-50$ (Shipping Included)

seems like V450 will work for me as the rm550x is kinda out of budget now.

Looking around Pakistani websites, I didn't find anything much better. Only thing close to okay I found (that was in stock) was a Thermaltake Smart RGB 700W, but that didn't look like a great option either (but strangely enough, it was similar in price to these second hand PSU's)

Its around 75$ here which is totally out of budget.

Should i opt for the Cooler Master V450 and hope for the best?

Good PSU, but I am just not a fan of buying a PSU second hand, but that is up to you to decide.

That PSU I mentioned would be less good than a V450, but I found it on a Pakistan computer store website for 10000 Pakistani Rupee, which according to Google translates to 65 USD. But I am not sure if tax is included right away

This is just a random PSU inside picture I took from Google:

Spoiler

But that should give an idea of how many components are inside a PSU, meaning it's impossible to judge from the outside, how the components on the inside here looks.

So you are saying that it may be repaired or anything?

You said 'Condition looks good' and I simply said the condition of a PSU is dependent on many different components being in good order, which you cannot judge from the outside.

I think i have made my standpoint towards second hand PSU's pretty clear at this point.

It's something I personally would not recommend, but it's up to you if you are okay with it.

What would you do if you faced this situation?

;]

Just another question:

1)Can bad psu cause FPS drops i mean Freezes or prolonged stutters?

Save up and buy a new quality new PSU with warranty, but that doesn't seem like a viable solution with the market where you live.

In theory, yes. If a PSU doesn't deliver 'correct power', your devices may stutter or worst case turn off.
