Trying to figure out 3.1 gen 2 gaming controllers.

I cannot find a single usb to micro usb 3.1 gen 2 cord online. I'm guessing they only make them in 2.0? I don't understand.. Xbox one ports are 3.0 ports but the controller itself does not support anything more than 2.0? I'm not sure what's going on here because the new elite series controller uses type-c which does support 3.1 gen 2 speeds but I don't want to go and waste $200 dollars just to bring one home open it up and find yet another 2.0 usb cord in the box. Can anybody help make some sense of this? I just want to plug my controller into the 3.1 gen 2 usb port on the back of my machine. Thanks!

USB 3.0 micro-B connectors have a different shape and more pins, so they would never fit anyways. I'm not even sure if micro-B was brought into the 3.1 GenX standards (because USB-C exists now and is just generally better; micro-B kinda sucks).

 

Any standard USB 2.0 A-to-micro-B (or C-to-micro-B, for that matter) cable should work (though there is an official cable, FWIW).

Any standard USB 2.0 A-to-micro-B (or C-to-micro-B, for that matter) cable should work (though there is an official cable, FWIW).

The only real issue I'm having is on my mobo there are no more 2.0 usb cord ports so I'm using a 3.1 gen 2 port instead. which is backwards compatible but I just wasnt sure if xbox controllers themselves supported 3.1 gen 2 or not.. I know xbox one series don't because they dont make the micro usb at 3.1 but the new elite series controllers are type c which can support it. SO my guess here is the elite series is also 2.0.. I can just disable the 3.1 gen 2 ports in device manager because I'm sure they are just for data transfer anyhow.

What connector is it on your motherboard? A or C? Speed doesn't matter.

MicroUSB is USB2, but everything newer is backwards compatible.

MicroUSB is USB2, but everything newer is backwards compatible.

type c.. which is gen 2.. so i could use a type c to c gen 2 cord on the xbox elite controller. but im sure its not a gen 2 device.

It would not be but it doesn't matter. You can use any C-C cable for the Elite, and any USB-C to microUSB on the other one.

Gen2 or not really does not matter at all.

not when it comes to 2.0 speed devices like keyboards mice and controllers. correct. but i still use the port for the controller anyhow. lol.

Completely irrelevant. Even USB1.1 is good enough for a controller with enough bandwidth and negligible latency.

Wink wink.. lol. Nah I'll prob disable the Gen 2 slot and use the 2.0 on the front of the case. Only one left.
