5700 or geforce 1660 ti

I have a ryzen 2600x, 16 gb of ram and geforce 1660 ti. I am returning the card to get one made from a different board. I could get another geforce 1660 ti or I could get a radeon 5700 for 50 dollars more. I don't really care about the performance boost as 1660 ti is good enough. But I had some problems with drivers with nvidia and running games on windows 7(I have windows 10 but like 7 better)   

 

I have a 500 power watt supply sesonic 80 plus bronze.  I did the calculationg using psu calculators and all my hardware recommends a power supply just around 500, a little over, 505.  the load watt would be around 450, so i would still have extra power.  Also the radeon requires a 6 and 8 pin, but I have only 2 6 plus 2 pins, although i have 6 plus 2 pin on the nvidia now.   So would I run into power issues with the ATI card?   Will it run games better on windows 7?  I kept getting IRQL less than equal errors on the nvidia card.

PSU calculators are useless

 

your system is unlikely to pass 300W while gaming, 200-250W will be more typical.

 

just get the RX 5700 as it's much faster. I didn't have any driver issues with Windows 7 with my RX 5700.

 

You just move the extra 2 pin out of the way. so you have the 8 + 6 pin.

Why are they useless? I know its not precise but its a general guideline.  I may get the 5700, i will wait what other people say, thanks for the comment!

1. Windows 7 expiration date is coming up in less than 6 months, so switch to 10

2. If you are packing that powerful of a rig, you should try upgrading power supply, I don't think the GPU was the issue. I think the PSU was not supplying enough power to the GPU, but this is just a guess.

3. I recommend you look at benchmark scores and to figure out which one has better price to performance

Because they aren't remotely accurate. Same with like userbenchmark.

Just look up reviews of the RX 5700 with power draw graphics

The PSU "calculators" are so innacurate that they're less general guidelines and more fake news.

I installed Windows 7 and 10 clean recently. The games that do irql on 7 don't do it on 10. Based on the calculator it's 100 watts over for 1660

 

1660 uses 120 and ryzen 110.  5700 is 180 and 100. Guru3d says motherboard uses 50 watts idle so that's almost half the PSU with current card. 

 

I think I will go with the 5700 and see. I don't think Nvidia drivers work well with Windows 7

I'm running a 3600 with a 5700 XT... My entire system, including monitor and peripherals never breaches 400w draw at the wall, and I'm overclocking... If I can't draw that much, you definitely aren't going to.

okay thanks for the relevant comment lol. yes I looked at real world power use and peak for 5700 is 180 and 2600x runs around 50 watts.  so my psu should be fine, hopefully i like it better than the nvidia card.

yeha i saw that thanks, the card is coming today. im 99 percent sure its going to work.  i didnt give much thoguht to the power supply calculator at the time, since it was a while since I built a computer.

Still I would recommend at least 550W PSU as the issue with some of those low wattage models is lack of proper cables and or connectors.

Plus it never hurts to have some overhead (and its not like a 550W PSU consumes 550W)

I use power supply calculators more as a basis rather then anything else as while yes modern parts are very power efficient some of those low wattage power supplies skimp on things like SATA cables and such (or GPU power connectors in your case).
