12v header to 5v strips

Brother has bought all the ek rgb blocks, as well as a 390 prime a from asus, wants to know if there is a way to use the lights with the splitter ek also sells with the 12v header on the board without a tiny puff of smoke

not possible, even if you manage to not get magic smoke you will still not get any lights to work.

 

the 12V LED´s are dumb, the entire strip will just light up in one color depending on which of the lines is connected to ground which is why they have 4 wires, one for power and 3 grounds, one for each color.

The 5V strips are smart they have a microcontroller in each LED and they only have 3 wires one ground one 5V and one for data which then controls all LEDs in the entire strip.
