Laptop comes on but stays on a black screen

Hey. I recently got a laptop from a friend. I would like to use it but it jas a wierd problem. When i put on the system. Every this works fine but the screen remains black as soon i power it on. I know its working because the blacl screennis lighted up. It shows no bios screen, it just remains like that for about 30mins and then a bios screen apears in OS boot. But the boot isnt successful. Please help me out. Its really weird.

Can you please clarify? Can you access BIOS? Does it boot to OS? So is it just slow or does it have GPU issues?

I cannot get into bios or boot screen. As soon as i press the power botton it goes straight to a lit black screen

Are you sure it's 30 minutes? If it is, then it's definitely a hardware issue.

If it's 30 seconds, there are known issues with HP laptops with the combination of Intel IGP and AMD GPUs. But those issues only crop up in Windows.
