What kind of Monitor should a Beginner buy??

xnllj

I have never experience a 1080p monitor or 1440p monitor before due to playing on a 5 year old laptop. I have decided to built my own system that would be able to run games at 1440p +60 frames and above but can't decided on what type of monitor to get even though i have done my research. I asked for my help from my friends away and they said its all comes down to personal preference but i don't have one because i never had any. So by chance do anyone have good recommendations for a gamer at the price range from $200-$600 dollars.

1080p 60~75hz are relatively cheap , 22~24" have great prices too (try get one with free sync*). imo anything better just cost way too much

a monitor could really last many yrs. as begginer, you may not notice the difference without side by side comparison

If you don't do anything competitive, 1080p or 1440p 60Hz is enough.

I prefer Dell's Ultrasharp lineup, I'm still using the U2414H, and this thing is a beast, 4+ years and still running like nothing ever happened

Short answer

Best option: 27" 1440p 144hz

More budget friendly: 24" 1080p 144hz

example:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=asus+gaming+gaming+monitor&ref=nb_sb_noss

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=samsung+gaming+monitor&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Long answer:

Size: Most optimized size is 24 - 27". bigger or smaller than this range feel uncomfortable to me.

Resolution: 1440p looks better than 1080p. but also depend on your graphic card. higher resolution mean higher load on your graphic card. if you want a good gaming experience on 1440p, recommend RTX 2060 or higher. or else you just stick to 1080p. btw 1080p looks bad on larger monitor

Refresh Rate: most people will say just stick to 60hz monitor. ok it's good enough for "beginner". but for me, 144hz monitor is much much smoother than 60hz and I see no reason to buy 60hz for gaming, unless money is the problem.

Panel Type: IPS > VA > TN. this heavily affect image quality. I would stick to a better panel type than better resolution. if you don't care about image color / viewing angle, then get TN for the best price.

Brand: up to you, I don't know which brand is famous/cheap in your country, but try to stick to the big company.
