34 inch ultrawide vs 27 inch 16:9

cpugeek21

Basically, are ultrawides really worth the hype? I'm thinking if I should just get a 27 inch monitor and call it a day or if I should actually join the hype train and get a 34 inch monitor.

Assuming money is not a factor (yes, I know I can basically get 2 x 27 inch monitors for the price of 1 x 34 inch monitor), which would you guys say is more worth getting in the long run? Thanks!

What are you doing with them? For productivity i still think two monitors are better than an UW. I like my UW for gaming though.

That's the problem, I like to do a bit of both. I do a little bit of coding, but there are also times where I like to play CS:GO on my computer, hence my conundrum.

It depends what you plan to use it for, what resolution you want (2560x1080 or 3440x1440), and what gpu you will be using.

going with a 3440x1440 is close to the number of pixels of 4k so for gaming you will need a pretty powerful gpu.

if youre just asking if the aspect ratio itself is worth it, 21:9 monitors are nice and id like to have a 3440x1440 120hz+ monitor, but I wouldnt be satisfied with the fps even with my 2080ti

Oh, I would have thought that 2080ti would be able to comfortably drive an ultrawide 3440 x 1440.

I actually have a vega 56. Do you think it is able to comfortably drive 2 monitors, a 3440 x 1440 with a 24 inch FHD monitor by the side? I know, there is a tradeoff between the resolution and the fps. But, in general, how low would I have to set my resolution to be able to comfortably achieve, say, 100FPS in a FPS game like CS:GO?

Thanks!

CS:GO relies heavily on the cpu so I think you would be fine there.

if you want to get an idea on what your fps would be like in games at 3440x1440 just look up vega 56 4k benchmarks for the games you're interested in since its hard to find 3440x1440 benchmarks. 4k is similar enough to give you an idea of where you'll be though, if anything your fps will be slightly higher. And running a secondary 1080p monitor isnt an issue if you're just web browsing or doing some other light task. the fps hit will be minimal.
